About Us
The First Time is a blog written by three third-year commerce students at the Smith School of Business. A passion for digital marketing and entrepreneurship united these lighthearted, genuine and honest individuals. Please find below personal anecdotes about why this blog is important to each author.

Jacqueline Hall
Hi there, nice to meet you! My name is Jacqueline, and I am very excited about the debut of our blog series, “The First Time”. Founded on the principles of abandoning anxiety and helping others, our aim is to provide young adults with a host of resources to prepare for new beginnings, first attempts, and unknown experiences. Eleanor Rosevelt wisely said, "do one thing every day that scares you." For me, this mantra plays a huge role in conquering my biggest fear: trying new things. I am a planner by nature and avoid the unknown at all costs. My goal for this blog is to encourage other risk-averse individuals to go forth with confidence in facing new experiences.
Haley Perlmutter
My name is Haley, and I’m very excited to launch my first ever blog series with this awesome team! As students, we sometimes feel like we can conquer the world, with everything figured out. With our blog, we hope to remind students to embrace the unknown of new experiences by sharing authentic and genuine ‘first time’ stories and tips that they can relate to. Playing competitive basketball most of my life, a quote by my icon MJ (Michael Jordan) that resonated with me is: “I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can’t accept not trying.” We hope that our content inspires others to take risks and try something new while bringing lightheartedness to the stress of first times!

Iñaki Hew
Hello! My name is Iñaki and I’m delighted to be starting “The First Time” blog with these two marvellous ladies! Being an international student all my life, I have constantly been forced outside my comfort zone through various experiences and I believe that it has shaped me to become the person I am today. With this blog, we want to encourage others to be brave, be bold, and be fearless when coming head to head with new experiences. There is a group called Yes Theory who seek discomfort in order to grow as individuals and a quote by them that resonated with me is, “Life’s greatest moments and deepest connections exist outside of your comfort zone.” We hope that our blog can encourage you to embrace new experiences with confidence and optimism to get out of your comfort zone!
